Overview
PredX.AI is an event trading market where event traders can buy and sell based on the outcome of future events. It is similar to trading stocks, but instead of companies, you trade on the likelihood of various events happening.
The product launched the beta version in Apr. 2024.
$500k
In Pre-Seed Funding, $20 million valuation
210+
Users tried the new feature in one month
45%+
Daily active user boost since new feature released
1100+
Daily active user. The total number reached 65k
What is the problem?
All events are now provided by platform, event traders are dissatisfied with the diversity of existing events.
The design innovation is that we allow event traders to create events freely for others to trade.

Initial Research
The story begins with some posts on the forum that caught our attention…
↓
Event traders want the ability to create their own events instead of just trading events offered by platform…
Is this a common need and why? We decided to find more answers…
Surprisingly, a survey of 60 event traders revealed that over 90% are interested in creating their own events..
↓
Users don't see enough creativity in platform events at this stage
Users feel the events published by the platform are too fixed and lack diversity
Users hope to find some events that they are really care and interested
Based on the initial research, we summarized our design goal↓
Introduce the 'event create' feature to Increase diversity of events and community engagement
User Research
We interviewed 4 event traders to gain further insights of 'event create' feature
↓
As the interview and research continued, we discovered they faced many problems and needed help. I summarized the following 3 user pain points and my product insights :
Ideation
To prioritize key pages, I start with user flow to de-scope the design
↓
During our first usability testing, we found a question: How can we control the quality of the user-created events?…
↓
If all events are published, the quality of the published events will decrease and will be hard for platform to manage thousands of events. So we decided that we should add an 'review' step. User-created events must be reviewed before they can be published and traded!
We brainstormed several approaches for How can we review the quality of events?
When finished creating the event, it will go to the 'voting' phase first. During this time everyone can vote, and the event will only be officially published when it is ranked at the top 10 for a week.
I will focus on the 'creating' and 'voting' phases for creators.
Wireframing and iteration
Based on research findings and ideation, we narrow it down into two key pages:
Event creation and Event dashboard. Event creation for users to create events while the event dashboard can help users track their event traffic and data thoroughly
Let's start with 'event creation'
↓
First try
Break the event creation process into multiple short steps
However, First user test shows the multi-steps make users difficult to track previous filled information. We decided to make it a one-page
↓
Iteration 1
Users still worried about how to describe events and titles accurately
Page with only text looks bored and isn't captivating
Users are confused about how their event looks like in the platform
Iteration 2
Introduce AI technology to help users rewrite texts and generate images
Platform events and activities can make the page more attractive
Add 'preview' feature to enhance users' confident of their events
Final Design
Streamlined event creation flow
AI-generated assistance utilize the platform intelligently
event dashboard is a relatively complex page. We started with the layout and content before moving on to the iteration session…
↓
We started by discussing with users and sorting out the data they were interested in during the ‘ Voting ' phase. We summarized what the event dashboard needs to cover into an initial design base
Iteration 1
The Event rank and vote data should be more obvious
The related articles in their dashboard is unnecessary
Show event timeline
Show both Votes and Rank data clearly
Iteration 2
Cards allow users to quickly check their events popularity and current ranking
Making data tables more readable
Timeline of events is more complete and clear for easy tracking
Final Design
Comprehensive event data and ranking analysis
Provide clear options for sharing events.
In the end, when we presented the new feature to the users, they were very excited with our work.
↓
After 2-3 rounds of user testing, there was a significant increase in user satisfaction with the product, The product achieved initial success!
Designing a brand-new feature from 0-1 taught me a lot…

Working in an agile startup environment
As a Product Designer in a fast-paced startup, I've learned to balance between speed and quality, which is essential for a seed-stage company. By conducting rapid user research, designing quick iterations, and "over-communicating" with the team have helped me adopt an agile mindset.
Design is a back-and-forth process
The design process for a brand-new feature is iterative, requiring continuous research and analysis with users and the market. The design direction will be revised and refined throughout this process until it is finalized.
The product is launched in april.
We look forward to a new round of user feedback and design.
